So This Happened...

So it's been quiet around here for good reason. I had new bamboo floors installed in about 2/3rds of the house this week. Took the installers 4 days and meant that I had to empty a majority of the rooms of their "stuff" but it is so worth it. I've been wanting to do this for quite awhile but it seemed like a very overwhelming task. For whatever reason, the timing was right.

The folks at Green Floors took very good care of me and the installers were fantastic as well.  Basically I removed all the carpeting which covered half the downstairs and the entire upstairs.

I decided to go with bamboo as a greener option (be sure to shop around though because a lot of the cheaper bamboo is not processed in an environmentally friendly way due to increased demand). It is also supposed to be harder than traditional hardwoods which should work well with the dogs.

It has a slightly different feel than traditional wood...mostly it's a bit smoother. The coloring comes from heating the wood to caramelize the sugars in the bamboo. It is very stunning and has truly transformed the rooms.

So this week will involved putting the house back together again. I'm trying to take it slowly and using this as an opportunity to re-organize and de-clutter (an ongoing process).. I'm also trying to keep focused on one project at a time as seeing the transformation in the house has really made me want to do more house stuff...like painting the TV room, painting my room, refinishing some bookcases, redecorating my bedroom (I shifted the bed around and it is like a new room). If I am not careful, I won't get anything done.

So first things first, I need to finish painting Jason's room (which we started in October!) You can see half the paint job above. Right now is the perfect time to do it as the room is fairly empty. So that is what is on my schedule for today.

Wish me luck! And hopefully regular blogging with resume (life permitting).
