It's Biden!

I have to admit that I am pretty happy with the choice of Biden for Obama's VP. He caught my attention during the primaries and I was really impressed by his grasp of foreign policy (this NPR debate that I blogged about before is a good example).

I also love his ability to play "attack dog" by calling things like they are (he was the one who said that every sentence out of Giuliani's mouth consisted of a noun, a verb and 9/11 which was so perfect. Has anyone noticed that McCain seems to be doing the same thing lately? Only it's noun, verb, POW.) This should be very interesting.

I have read and talked to folks who do not understand the whole hubbub over McCain's houses. Personally, I do not care about McCain's houses. But the reason why I am really glad that this story has taken hold is because it shows how ridiculous the arguments that the Republicans have been making are...they have been trying to paint Obama as an "elitist" and "privileged". Now the shoe is on the other foot and reporters are finally pointing out the following truths:

McCain, who has portrayed Obama as an elitist, is the son and grandson of admirals. The Associated Press estimates his wife, a beer heiress, is worth $100 million. Obama was raised by a single mother who relied at times on food stamps, and went to top schools on scholarships and loans. His income has increased from book sales since he spoke at the 2004 Democratic convention.

The hypocrisy amazes me. Be sure to check out that link to be reminded about all the things that were said by Republicans about Kerry being "kept" by his 2nd millionaire wife and how that made him unfit and "un-manly" enough to be president. That whole "too elite" thing again...has there ever been a Democrat that has not be "too elite" in the eyes of the Republicans? Of course not, because it is a theme that works, so let's use it if it helps us win because we certainly don't want to talk about anything that really matters. But nary a word is being mentioned about McCain being a "kept man". IOKIYAR (it's ok if your a republican) is right. 

Now if we could just move past this and actually talk about issues that matter. Like how Obama's economic plan actually lowers taxes on the middle class substantially more than McCain's will (despite McCain ads falsely saying they would rise). But I won't hold my breath. Seems McCain doesn't really want to campaign on the issues...but why would he? Scary thing is that I actually kinda liked and had some respect for McCain back in 2000. But that McCain is definitely not the McCain who is running now. Sad.
