Hunkering Down
Jeff left yesterday to batten down the hatches back home. He took the cats*** and a truck load of "stuff." The boys and I are hanging out in Ocean City until tomorrow to let Tropical Storm Hannah blow over. There are still some things left to pack, but the majority is finished.
It looks like the worst of it seems to be heading west (I have been tracking the storm on radar) so far. We have only gotten a little bit of rain and a lot of wind. But it is still early and the wind is definitely picking up. Last night the boys and I brought in all the outside stuff that could blow away, packed away the boogie boards and beach chairs in the shed and, yes, remembered to move the Adirondack chairs away from the dock.
Storms are incredible to experience down here on the water. Luckily, it does not look as if it will be as bad as Tropical Storm Ernesto was two years ago. Now that was a storm. Hannah is not expected to pack quite as much of a punch. But I am sure that it will be quite an experience.
So, weather permitting, we will be one our way back home tomorrow!
***For family and friends who are aware of our ongoing mystery of Lapis the Disappearing Cat, it looks like we have finally solved the mystery! For those who are not aware, Lapis has a major habit of disappearing right when we ready to leave. At home, this is more understandable, as there are a lot of nooks and crannies in which to hide. But our place here at the beach is much smaller and there really are very few places for him to hide, or so it would seem. But for the past two summers, we have had to delay leaving (last year I think it was by at least 3 hours!) because we could not find Lapis, no matter how hard we looked. This year it looked like the same thing was going to happen as Jeff was getting ready to leave, but Ellie saved the day. While we were hunting, she kept sniffing around our laundry closet and kept trying to get at something. Turns out that, despite appearances to the contrary, there is actually just enough room behind the hot water heater for a 16 pound cat to hide. After pushing Lapis out with a broom, Jeff was able to head on his way.
